Our Community

Over the years Newman associates have been involved with several campaigns working alongside several charities. From wearing a pair of jeans to work to running several consecutive marathons in 7 consecutive days across the Sahara desert our people have sacrificed time and money to help those less fortunate.

TEAM Jonathan Handford

Good things have certainly come in threes for Rugby Swimming Club with league success, European competition and new sponsorship all coming together this week. In the run up to last Saturday’s promotion to the top flight of Midlands junior swimming, the club received donations from leading Rugby firms including Newman Estate Agents. Jonathan Handford, MD of Newmans, said, ”We are delighted to contribute towards the growth of a club that is raising Rugby’s sporting profile in the region. We believe that results come from hard work and dedication and the recent success of Rugby’s swimmers is proof of that.”

There’s also continental competition for Rugby Swimming Club this week, with Ross Turner swimming for club, town and country in the European Masters Championships in Cadiz, Spain. Follow his progress online at www.cadizmaster2009.es/eng_index.html as Ross competes in the 50m and 100m breaststroke. Rugby Swimming Club is always on the lookout for new talent so any 8-16 year olds interested in joining the club should contact Sarah Furniss at rugbyswimming@ntlworld.com or on 01788 560368.

Jon

A short note, but a very BIG THANK YOU for the very generous support which you have recently provided to Rugby Swimming Club.

I think Hemesh and Anthony have already explained that your sponsorship will be used to help fund the cost of team kit for the up-coming district Junior League final.

The league comprises 3 divisions, each of 24 teams. After 3 rounds of competition, the top 6 teams in each division are invited to swim at a special finals day at which promotion is settled. The finals are a big day for swimmers who compete: spectator areas are packed (tickets are always over-subscribed) and provide very loud support; teams parade on to the poolside in their kit which is specially designed/ printed to mark the occasion.

Once swimmers have participated in a finals day, they remember it for years to follow and continue to wear their kit at other events for many months afterwards (or at least until they inevitably grow out of it!).

Specially printed swim hats, T shirts etc. are not cheap to purchase for 30+ swimmers. Parents contribute towards the cost of the kit and the Club uses fundraising activities and sponsorship to try and offset this cost. Your very generous donation will help greatly.

On behalf of the whole club, thank you for your support.
